JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 10, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a grand opening celebration for its Kirksville Satellite Office June 18.
The Kirksville Satellite Office, which is managed by the department's Northeast Regional Office, is located on the campus of Truman State University. Currently, one staff person from the Northeast Regional Office in Macon has been assigned to the site.
In addition to providing engineering and inspection service in Adair and nearby counties, staff at this location will also work with the university on several cooperative projects.
"The Kirksville Satellite Office puts staff closer to the communities we serve," said Northeast Regional Director Irene Crawford. "This connection to Truman State University will give the department unique access to university resources. It also provides the opportunity for joint activities that assist in the department's responsibilities and provide environmental educational experience for Truman's students."
The grand opening ceremony will kick off at 3:30 p.m. at the Magruder Hall Cyber Café with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 4 p.m. Magruder Hall is located on Patterson Street on the university campus. Department of Natural Resources Director Doyle Childers and University President Barbara Dixon are scheduled to attend. Several state and local leaders have been invited to attend.
The Kirksville Satellite Office's grand opening will be preceded by the grand opening of the Boonville Satellite Office June 18 and followed by the Hannibal Satellite Office grand opening June 19. The Department of Natural Resources' Field Services Division oversees the department's five regional offices and 17 satellite offices.
