JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 10, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a grand opening celebration for its Hannibal Satellite Office June 19.

The Hannibal Satellite Office, which is managed by the department's Northeast Regional Office, Macon, is located at the Missouri Department of Transportation District 3 Office, 1711 South Highway 61.  One Northeast Regional Office staff member is currently assigned to the site.

Staff assigned to the satellite office will focus primarily on water pollution issues in the northeast Missouri counties that border the Mississippi River. Staff will also work with the Missouri Department of Transportation on environmental issues.

"Because of the nature of the work that they do, Department of Transportation projects are frequently regulated by the Department of Natural Resources," said Northeast Regional Director Irene Crawford. "Sharing the same roof can only help improve what is already a strong partnership."

The grand opening ceremony will kick off at 10 a.m.  Department of Natural Resources Director Doyle Childers and Department of Transportation Chief Engineer Kevin Keith are scheduled to attend. Several state and local leaders have been invited to attend.

The Hannibal Satellite Office's grand opening will be preceded by grand openings of the Boonville and Kirksville satellite offices on June 18. The Department of Natural Resources' Field Services Division oversees the department's five regional offices and 17 satellite offices. A map of the department's regional offices and satellites is available online at http://www.dnr.mo.gov/regions/regions.htm.
