TAKE A GUIDED HIKE AT BENNETT SPRING STATE PARK MAY 24

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., MAY 12, 2008 -- Explore the diverse landscape at Bennett Spring State Park near Lebanon on a guided interpretive hike to the park's natural tunnel on Saturday, May 24. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Natural Tunnel Hike is 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of spring on this 7.5-mile hike along bluffs, through upland and bottomland forests and savannas, near glades, streams and open meadows, past caves and to the focal point of this daylong hike -- the Bennett Spring Natural Tunnel. The park's different habitats will be explained and explored along this scenic journey. Participants should bring water, plenty of snacks and a lunch and wear comfortable hiking shoes. The use of insect repellent is recommended. Those 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the trailhead near Bennett Spring. This hike is limited to 25 participants, so get your reservations in now by calling the park's nature center at 417-532-3925 or sending an e-mail to bennett.spring.nature.center@dnr.mo.gov.
