JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 6, 2008 -- New water mains and a sewer line will connect a portion of Lake of the Ozarks State Park to the city of Osage Beach's water and sewer systems. The public will have the opportunity to comment on this project, according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Two new water mains will connect from the park to Osage Beach's drinking water system. The water mains will replace the well serving Grand Glaize Beach area, including the marina, and the well serving the state park system's central warehouse and sign shop. In addition, a water main will be constructed to supply water to the park's Pa-He-Tsi day-use area. The existing well at Grand Glaize Beach and the existing well serving the central warehouse and sign shop will be plugged and closed properly. The existing well in the Pa-He-Tsi area will be kept in service for future needs.
Two grinder pumps and force mains will provide sewer service to the Pa-He-Tsi area and will transport wastewater to the City of Osage Beach's sewer system.
This project is part of a continuing effort to upgrade water and wastewater systems in state parks and historic sites and connect them to public utilities when possible.
The public will have the opportunity to see details of the proposed project and provide comments. The project will be on display until May 16 in the park's office at 403 Highway 134, Kaiser, MO 65047. The proposal is also available online at www.mostateparks.com/lakeozark.htm.
The cost for the project is approximately $425,000. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is providing 55 percent of the funding for the project. The remaining funding will come from the Bagnell Dam Osage Relicensing Settlement Agreement with AmerenUE.
The portion of Lake of the Ozarks State Park that is affected by this project is located along U.S. Highway 54 in the City of Osage Beach. For more information about the project, call the park directly at 573-348-2696 or the Department of Natural Resources toll free at
