JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 21, 2008 -- Missouri diesel fuel prices hit a new high as national records were also set for diesel fuel and gasoline, according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Energy Center's latest biweekly Missouri Energy Bulletin.

On March 17, the retail price paid at Missouri diesel fuel pumps averaged $3.86, a new state record average. The Missouri average is 11 cents lower than the U.S. average of more than $3.97 per gallon, an all-time high for the third week in a row.

The average retail price for Missouri gasoline increased 12 cents in the last month to $3.08 per gallon. Missouri's average gasoline price is nearly 69 cents higher than pump prices at the same time last year, while the diesel fuel price average is nearly $1.26 higher than for the same period in March 2007. The department's Energy Center collects fuel prices from retail providers located throughout Missouri. Published twice a month, the Missouri Energy Bulletin includes information about prices and supplies of transportation and heating fuels.

In the most recent Energy Center survey, the highest Missouri gasoline prices were found in northwest and southeast portions of the state at more than $3.13. Southwest Missouri and St. Louis area prices averaged lowest at about $3.06.
