JEFFERSON CITY, MO, DEC. 28, 2004 -- Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Steve Mahfood announced his resignation today.
"I've been a part of the Department of Natural Resources for the past 20 years," Mahfood said. "And, I've been blessed and fortunate to have served as director for the past seven years. I'm very proud of the work our department has accomplished. I've been very blessed to lead one of the most courageous and caring groups of people I've ever known and to be a part of their efforts. However, the time has come to say goodbye."
Mahfood plans to continue to work to protect our country's natural resources.
"Being a Missourian, I know how important quality of life is to all of us," he said. "Our quality of life improves when our natural, cultural, historic and energy resources are protected and our economy thrives."
Mahfood said he is particularly proud of his staff. "They have adapted to a changing workplace and difficult economic conditions while continuing to do their jobs effectively and taking on a lot more responsibility," he said. "Our staff will continue their hard work and responsiveness to Missouri citizens."
His last day with the agency is Dec. 31, 2004.
