Celebrate Weihnachtsfest at Deutschheim State Historic Site

Jefferson City, Mo. - The public is invited to celebrate Weihnachtsfest, a traditional 19th century German Christmas at Deutschheim State Historic Site on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 13-14. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

During the event, the Pommer-Gentner House, circa. 1840, will be decorated with greenery and lit by lamplight; its historic rooms will feature Christmas trees decorated with authentic German ornaments. Guests will be able to sample traditional German Christmas cookies including springerle, Lebkuchen and zimmerschied. The unique Weihnachtsfest gift shop will have springerle molds and rolling pins, recipe books, and imported German pop-up cards for Christmas gift giving. Information will be provided about how the Christmas customs of the German immigrants became American traditions that are celebrated today.

Admission is free for this special annual event, held at the Pommer-Gentner House, located at 110 Market Street. Deutschheim State Historic Site is located in historic Hermann, Missouri at 107 W.
