Night Sky Over Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park Oct. 18

Jefferson City, Mo. - The public is invited to a fun evening under the stars at Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park on Saturday, Oct. 18. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the event will kick off at 6 p.m. with a “virtual tour” of Earth’s orbit at the visitor center.

The evening will also include a program by the St. Louis Astronomical Society (SLAS), whose members will set up telescopes for viewing the sky. SLAS members will be offering instruction on how to identify the Big Dipper, the North Star and constellations such as Cygnus, Pegusus, and Andromeda. This event is three days prior to the peak of the Orionid meteor shower. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, binoculars and a telescope.

Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park is located 20 miles west of St. Louis on Highway BA, between U.S. 40 and Highway 100. For more information about the event, call the park at 636-458-3813.
