Archaeology Day at Knob Noster State Park Sept. 27

Informational meeting to take place the morning of the event

Jefferson City, Mo. - The public is invited to attend the park’s second annual “Archaeology Day” at Knob Noster State Park on Saturday, Sept. 27. The event will be held from 2-5 p.m. at the park’s Visitor Center.

Members of the Sedalia - West Central Missouri Archaeological Society, a chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society, will be at the Visitor Center with information about Missouri archaeology. At 3 p.m. Tom Hartline, the chapter’s president, will speak on "Archaic Bannerstones and Other Problematics."

The Sedalia Chapter will have a table of artifacts for guests to view. Members of the public can also bring in artifacts for assistance in identification by society members. This event is free and open to the public, and it is presented in cooperation with Missouri Archaeological Society and Missouri State Parks.

From 10 a.m.-noon, park representatives will be available at the WPA Shelter for the park’s informational meeting. Guests are invited to share feedback and suggestions about park services and operations. This open-house style meeting is part of an ongoing effort by Missouri State Parks to ensure citizens have input regarding the facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites.
