St. Francois State Park to celebrate 50th anniversary with "Pike Run Hills Festival" Sept. 6

Jefferson City, Mo. - In celebration of St. Francois State Park’s 50th anniversary, the park will host the “Pike Run Hills Festival.” Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the free event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Picnic Shelter #2.

The “Pike Run Hills Festival” is a celebration of the families who called the area home more than 100 years ago. Cultural demonstrations, costumed interpreters and hands-on activities will part of the event. Guests will be able to try out skills like rope making, clothes washing, crosscut saw, cow milking and flint knapping. Visitors can also view a Civil War encampment or take lessons from a schoolteacher as the students would have at Coonville School. Food vendors will be available throughout the day.

St. Francois State Park is located 4 miles north of Bonne Terre on Highway 67. For more information about the event, call St. Francois State Park at 573-358-2173.
