Jefferson City, Mo. - Deutschheim State Historic Site will be hosting a tour of the site’s heirloom gardens to allow visitors to step back in time as they are greeted by gardeners in period attire. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the event will take place on June 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The garden visit and barn tour are free of charge and will give participants a change to sample from the historic herb garden and learn about 19th century gardening techniques, heirloom plants and their uses during the early Missouri settlement period. The small 1880s half-timber barn features historic farm and garden tools. Traditional pink lemonade and springerle cookies will be served.
Tours of the 1840s Pommer-Gentner House and Strehly House/Winery/Print Shop are conducted at 10 a.m., 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. for the regular admission price of $4 for adults and $2.50 for children.
