"Faces of Rural America" photo exhibit on display at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site

“Faces of Rural America,” an exhibition of photographs by Belle Johnson of Monroe City, will be featured in the Elizabeth Rozier Gallery at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site from June 12 - Sept. 1.

Belle Johnson (1864-1945) owned and operated a photography studio in Monroe City for more than 50 years. Although known as a photographer of events such as weddings and graduations, this exhibit features Johnson’s portraits. Intimate and charming, the subjects range from young girls with bouquets of flowers to white-haired men whittling. "Faces of Rural America" is a traveling exhibition organized by the Massillon Museum in Ohio.

The Elizabeth Rozier Gallery is located in the Union Hotel at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, 101 Jefferson, Jefferson City. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is operated by Missouri State Parks.
