Cherokee basket program planned June 3 at Van Meter State Park

A special program on Cherokee baskets will be presented June 3 at Van Meter State Park near Miami. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the program will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at Missouri's American Indian Cultural Center, located in the park. The public is invited to attend the free event.
Rose Drake, tribal member of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, will present a lecture on her research at the National Museum of American Indians and National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. She has won numerous awards for her traditional and contemporary basketry and will bring a collection of Cherokee baskets.
From May through September, Missouri's American Indian Cultural Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The center is closed Monday and Tuesday.
