JEFFERSON CITY, MO, Jan. 5, 2011--The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public awareness session on the permitting process for landfills and the possible expansion of the Central Missouri Landfill near Sedalia.
The session will be held at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 3, at the Sedalia City Hall Council Chambers, 200 South Osage Ave. in Sedalia.
Representatives of the department's Division of Geology and Land Survey, Solid Waste Management Program and Kansas City Regional Office will be present along with representatives from Waste Corporation of Missouri to answer questions during the informal discussion period.
The Central Missouri Landfill has obtained approval to begin a geologic investigation for the possible expansion of the Central Missouri Landfill. The proposed site is located at 24461 Oak Grove Lane, approximately three miles west of Sedalia. A detailed site investigation work plan is being prepared for the department by Genesis Solid Waste Group Inc on behalf of Waste Corporation of Missouri.
The department reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure solid waste landfills are properly designed and constructed. Technical factors that protect Missouri's environment are also examined. This public session will explain the application review process and the approximate timeline for ruling on the permit application.
People requiring special services or accommodations to attend the meeting should contact Darrell Hartley of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Solid Waste Management Program at P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0176, or call 573-751-5401 or 800-361-4827.
