JEFFERSON CITY, MO. OCT. 19, 2010 -- Work has begun to complete the improvements to the bicycle and walking trail at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site near Lawson, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources announced today.
Work involves paving three sections of the trail. The sections are located on the northeast, southwest and southeast areas of the 3.8-mile bicycle and walking trail, which circles Williams Lake.
Work is estimated to be completed by the end of October. During the preparation and paving, the sections will be closed but the remainder of the trail will remain open.
The total cost of the project $69,952 and is being financed partially with a $48,885 grant through the Recreational Trails Program, a federal grant program funded by the Federal Highway Administration. The remaining costs are funded through the parks, soils and water sales tax and in-kind services from the park.
