JEFFERSON CITY, MO., OCT. 15, 2010 – Enjoy the food, crafts and activities associated with fall at the first annual Fall Harvest Festival Oct. 23 at Washington State Park near De Soto. This day-long event is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and will be held at the Big River day use shelter area and the campground amphitheater and is open to the public.

The event will open with a craft fair sponsored by local Missouri artisans, crafters and hobbyists from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the day use area. Homemade food and crafts will be available for purchase.  Many artisans will demonstrate their crafts as well, providing a glimpse into some very interesting hobbies.  A pumpkin carving contest, hayride and other activities for people of all ages will be available during this time in the day-use area.

The event continues with a free music concert at the campground amphitheater from 2:30 through 5 p.m.  Traditional folk music will be performed.  Trick-or-treating will be offered by participating families in the campground from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  After an early evening of trick-or-treating fun, visitors and campers will be treated to an entertaining, family-friendly Halloween program at 8 p.m. at the amphitheater.  All programs are free and open to the public.

For these events in the amphitheater, guests are encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle service and park at one of the nearby lots (swimming pool parking lot or Thunderbird Lodge parking lot).  Parking in the campground is reserved for camp guests.  The shuttle service will be provided throughout the evening.
