JEFFERSON CITY, MO., OCT. 6, 2010 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Emergency Response section is responding to the sinking of a motor vessel on the Mississippi River near St. Louis. Public drinking water sources downstream from the sunken vessel have been notified.

The M/V Bill Pehler, owned by ARTCO, was reported to have grounded and be sinking on the Missouri side of the river at Mile Marker 182.  The National Response Center reported a sheen on the water, which can indicate an oil or gas leak.

DNR responders on the scene observed that the vessel was completely sunk. The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to the scene, as well.
