Bring your ideas to an open house at Lake Wappapello State Park Sept. 18

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., SEPT. 14, 2010 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources invites you to bring your ideas to an open house on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Lake Wappapello State Park near Williamsville. The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Shelter House # 1 in the park and is open to the public.
“Visiting the Park – Past, Present and Future” will be the theme for the open house. Visitors can view exhibits featuring early park pictures and maps and history of the area. At 9:30 a.m., a video on the creation of Wappapello Lake will be shown. Guests are invited to bring old photos or memorabilia from past visits to the park. An informational meeting, beginning at 10 a.m., will highlight recent accomplishments at the park and future plans. Agenda items will include changes in the concession services, budget update, current projects, an update on the State Parks Youth Corps, and a discussion on the emerald ash borer and other invasive species in the park. Visitors are invited to share comments on the park’s services and operations. Following the meeting, visitors will have the chance to chat with an old-time area visitor. Refreshments will be served.
This informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort by the department to ensure that citizens have input on facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites.
Lake Wappapello State Park is located 16 miles north of Poplar Bluff on Highway 172 off of Highway 67.
