JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 10, 2010- Join the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the State Parks Youth Corps at Bollinger Mill State Historic Site for a showcase of their work and a watermelon seed-spitting contest. The event, titled “New Faces of Preservation,” will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 14 at the site at Burfordville.
Members of the State Parks Youth Corps team worked throughout the summer to preserve the gristmill for future generations. Come take a tour of the renovation projects and watch presentations and a documentary on the history of the mill. Listen to the storytelling of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” and an explanation of how the Youth Corps workers “speak for the trees.”
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon created the State Parks Youth Corps to offer summer jobs in the outdoors to Missourians ages 17-24. The program is a collaboration between the department’s Division of State Parks and the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
Bollinger Mill State Historic Site is located at 113 Bollinger Mill Road in Burfordville.
