Informational meeting planned May 29 at Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., MAY 19, 2010 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources invites you to bring your ideas to an informational meeting and open house on Saturday, May 29, at Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site in New Madrid. The informational meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Hunter-Dawson house and is open to the public. The 150th commemoration of the building of the Hunter-Dawson house will also be celebrated.
Recent accomplishments at the park and future plans will be highlighted during the informational meeting. Topics to be covered include personnel changes, State Parks Youth Corps projects, budget issues, special events and programs and the establishment of a friends’ group for the site. New programs being developed and upcoming and proposed projects will also be discussed. Visitors are invited to share comments on the Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site’s services and operations.
An abbreviated tour of the house will be offered highlighting improvements and projects that have been accomplished during the last three years. Visitors will also have the chance to view a new exhibit under development about 1860s clothing. Refreshments from this time period will be served.
This informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort by the department to ensure that citizens have input on facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites.
