JEFFERSON CITY, MO. MARCH 29, 2010 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has approved an application to expand the Courtney Ridge Sanitary Landfill in Jackson County.
The permit modification allows a vertical expansion of the site, which will raise the elevation of the landfill approximately 85 feet while adding 12.4 million cubic yards of air space. At the current disposal rate, this will add an additional 67 years of operational life to the landfill.
The sanitary landfill is located on Highway 291 approximately two miles north of Highway 24 in Sugar Creek.
The Solid Waste Management Program reviews all requests for permit modifications of existing landfills to protect the environment and individuals that live near the site and ensure compliance with the Missouri Solid Waste Management Law and regulations.
For more information on this permit modification or other solid waste management issues, contact the department’s Solid Waste Management Program at 573-751-5401 or visit dnr.mo.gov/env/swmp/facilities/courtney.htm.
