Gov. Nixon announces $18.7 million in Recovery Act funds awarded to 8 communities for waste, drinking water system improvements

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB, 19, 2010 -- Gov. Jay Nixon today announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded eight communities throughout Missouri with $18.7 million in grants and loans for wastewater and drinking water improvements funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The Recovery Act provides significant funding to assist communities with infrastructure needs for water quality, wastewater and drinking water. A portion of the funding will be targeted toward green infrastructure, water and energy efficiency and environmentally innovative projects. This infusion of grant and loan funding will help the village protect its citizens and the environment by making necessary drinking water improvements.

The communities receiving funding, the amounts and nature of the funding (grants or loans), description of the project and expected completion date are listed below:

The Department of Natural Resources’ Water Protection Program will administer the grant and loan funds. The department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
