JEFFERSON CITY, MO, -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the village of Kelso in Scott County with a $135,350.50 grant.  During tough economic times, this infusion of grant funding will help Kelso protect its citizens and the environment by making necessary drinking water improvements.

Kelso will use the grant to construct a new water supply well and water transmission main.  The project is estimated to cost $270,701 and is expected to be completed in November 2009.  The village will provide matching funds to pay for the project.

The Department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007.  The sale of the bonds allows the Department to provide cities and municipalities with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.

The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds.  The Department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
