JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JULY 23, 2009 -- The Missouri Air Conservation Commission will hold a public meeting at 9 a.m. on July 29 at The Resort and Yacht Club, Grand Ballroom-Gravois Room, 2325 Bittersweet Rd. in Lake Ozark.
At this meeting, the commission will hear routine reports from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' staff regarding air permits, operations and enforcement actions.
The commission will also conduct a public hearing on the State of Missouri Plan for Implementation, Maintenance and Enforcement of National Ambient Air Quality Standards. The Federal Clean Air Act Amendments require each state to submit a plan to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address the standards in every air quality region within the state. The plan is being revised as a result of EPA's amendment to the fine particulate standards on Sept. 21, 2006. This revised plan demonstrates Missouri's ability to implement the primary and secondary 2006 particulate matter standards.
In addition, the Department will present the Missouri State Implementation Plan for Regional Haze for adoption. The Department developed the Missouri Regional Haze Plan to meet the requirements of the federal Regional Haze Rule. The Department recently revised Missouri's plan to address air quality issues related to visibility at nearby scenic areas.
The Department will also present the Missouri State Implementation Plan for the Doe Run Herculaneum Lead Nonattainment Area for adoption. The commission will hear comments and responses from staff regarding this proposed amendment. For more information on this plan, visit the Department's website at www.dnr.mo.gov/env/apcp/stateplanrevisions.htm.
The Department of Natural Resources requests people intending to give verbal presentations on the proposed public hearing items also provide a written copy of their testimony to the commission secretary at the time of the public hearing. The Department will also accept written comments for the record until 5 p.m. on Aug. 5.
