JEFFERSON CITY, MO., JUNE 1, 2009 -- Discover colorful wildflowers and learn about prairie plants on guided hikes this summer at Prairie State Park near Mindenmines.  These hikes will take place on June 6, July 4 and Aug. 1. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the hikes will begin at 10 a.m. and are free and open to the public.

As the colors of the prairie are ever changing, each of these hikes will offer a unique experience.  Meet at the park's visitor center to embark on each excursion into the prairie grasses and flowers. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, bring along drinking water and dress for the weather, rain or shine.

Prairie State Park is located 17 miles west of Lamar on Highway 160 to State Road NN. For more information, contact the park at 417-843-6711 or the Department of Natural Resources toll free at 800-334-6946 (voice) or 800-379-2419 (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf).  For more information about Missouri state parks and historic sites, visit www.mostateparks.com
