JEFFERSON CITY, MO, -- Gov. Jay Nixon announced the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the city of Montrose in Henry County with a $67,749 grant. During tough economic times, this infusion of grant funding will help Montrose protect its citizens and the environment by making necessary drinking water improvements.

The city will use the grant to fund approximately 10 percent of the costs to make drinking water system improvements which include a new water storage tank. The project is estimated to cost $655,749 and is expected to be completed in September of 2009.

The Department sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. The sale of the bonds allows the Department to provide cities and municipalities with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements. The city will use the grant funds in conjunction with a Missouri Department of Economic Development Community Development Block Grant and city funds.

The Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. The Department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects as well as provide a financial savings.
