JEFFERSON CITY, MO., APRIL 24, 2009 -- Help fill the sky with color and celebrate spring at the "Come Fly a Kite" event on Saturday, May 2, at Washington State Park near De Soto. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, this family event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
Gateway Kite Club of St. Louis will fill the afternoon with sport and ballet kite flying demonstrations. Sport kite flying lessons will be offered. There will be ample space for everyone to get in on the action and fly a kite. For those who don't have a kite, a kite flyer and kite maker will help kids make and decorate their own easy-to-fly kites for a small fee of $2.50. If weather permits, there will also be dusk or night flying.
Washington State Park is located eight miles south of De Soto on Highway 21 in Washington County.
