Department of Natural Resources hosts public meeting on Litton Systems and Electro-Pac sites

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Department of Natural Resources hosts public meeting on Litton Systems and Electro-Pac sites

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 25, 2019 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources invites the public to an open house and informational meeting about the former Litton Systems Inc. site in Springfield and the former Electro-Pac site in Willard. The meeting will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 7, at the Relics Event Center, 2015 W. Battlefield Road, Springfield.

The former Litton Systems Inc. circuit board manufacturing site, located just east of the Springfield-Branson National Airport, is a source of trichloroethene, or TCE, contamination. The department is overseeing cleanup of the site through its Superfund Cooperative Program, an alternative for contaminated sites that otherwise would be referred to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The former Electro-Pac site, also a TCE site, located on Farm Road 84 in Willard, was an electroplating facility that operated for only two years in the 1970s. The department initiated an additional investigation of the site to determine whether TCE contamination is affecting private drinking water wells in the area.

During the open house, which will run from 4 to 6 p.m., the public can exchange information and ask questions one-on-one with staff from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and Northrop Grumman, owner of the Litton site. Presentations begin at 6 p.m. and will include an overview and update on both sites, including investigations, cleanup activities and plans for future work. A question-and-answer session and additional open house time will follow the presentations. Participants also will be able to submit written comments, questions and concerns.
