FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Department of Natural Resources awards $2.54 million to Buchanan County Public Water Supply District

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 21, 2019 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded $2.54 million in financial assistance to Buchanan County Public Water Supply District No. 1 for upgrades to the district’s water distribution system.

The project will include replacing approximately 12 miles of 8-inch water main and the Parker Road master meter. The project will enable the district to maintain and operate a water system that meets the drinking water quality standards and provides reliable water service now and into the district’s planning period. The project is expected to be completed by October 2020.

The funding for the project consists of a $1.27 million grant and a $1.27 million low-interest loan through the department’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. The fund provides financial assistance to communities with infrastructure needs for water quality, wastewater and drinking water. This funding package is estimated to save the district’s ratepayers $1.27 million in principal and approximately $350,000 in interest over the loan’s 20-year term.

“Water and wastewater systems are essential infrastructure that support the health and economic vitality of a community,” said Carol Comer, director of the Department of Natural Resources. “We are committed to working with communities to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects.”

This project will be funded wholly or in part with monies received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
