TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS

In 1908, the U.S. Geological Survey and the State Survey, then known as the Missouri Bureau of Geology and Mines, entered into an agreement to develop topographic map coverage of Missouri. The first attempt was a 30-minute map (scale 1:125,000) which was made until 1910. Between 1910 and 1949, the 15-minute map (scale 1:62,500, 1 inch = 1 mile) was produced. The first 7.5 minute map (scale 1:24,000, 2.6 inches = 1 mile) was produced in 1933, but it was not until 1949 that they superseded the 15 minute map in popularity and demand.

Complete coverage of the entire state requires 1302 7.5 minute maps.

In addition to topography, the maps also show buildings, towns, roads and highways, township boundaries, section lines, county boundaries, lakes, rivers, streams, and state parks. Many people find them indispensable for their work, recreation, and for various types of legal affairs.

The Geological Survey and Resource Assessment Division maintains an inventory of over 300,000 topographic quadrangle maps (7.5', 30'X60' and 1°X2° ) available for sale. Some 15' maps are available at no charge and may be picked up at our office. If mailed, you must pay for shipping. Forest overprints (woodlands shown in green) are sent unless plain maps are requested and are available. Maps are ordered by their individual names, and an index map is available upon request at no charge. An index to coverage by each county in the state is also available at no additional charge.

7.5' Topographic Quadrangle Maps Price $6. Map orders of less than 10 are sent folded; enclose $1.50 extra for the tube if you wish to have them rolled. A discount of 25 percent is given on orders totaling 25 or more topographic maps. Over-the-counter service is available at the survey.

Topographic Maps of 1:100,000 Scale, published by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), 1 in. = approx. 1.6 mi., (some planimetric). Price $7. Covers area 30 x 60 minutes. Metric contours and elevation in meters.

Topographic Maps of 1:250,000 Series, published by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS); 1 in. = approx. 4 mi., available with forest overprint and some with shaded relief. Price $7.

Orthophotoquads are available for parts of the state. Published orthophotoquads sell for $4 and unpublished (black and white prints) are $3.50..

Lamination Service. Maximum width is twenty-four inches. Specify glossy or matte finish. Price $2 per foot.

ECONOMIC GEOLOGY MAPS

Mineral Resources Map of Missouri, 2003. Price $6.00-folded; $7.50-rolled. This map shows the locations of existing mines and mineral processing facilities in Missouri. An inset table shows mineral production statistics for years 1998, 1999 and 2000. Inset graphs show production histories of the various mineral commodities dating back to 1900. It provides an update on how mineral production has changed in Missouri since the previous version of the map in 1988 and is an excellent tool to identify where certain mineral commodities are located in the state. It also provides the basic information for studies of geologic hazards posed by abandoned mines, and for environmental studies that address the geochemistry of soil, bedrock, and groundwater. This colorful, poster-sized, 1:500,000 scale map was created using state-of-the-art digital mapping technology. It measures 43 1/4 by 54 3/4 inches. Suitable for framing, it is printed on UV protected, heavy weight glossy paper.

GEOLOGIC MAPS

Missouri Environmental Geology Atlas (MEGA), The MEGA CD-ROM is a collection of interactive computer maps that allow the user access to multiple statewide Geographic Information System (GIS) data layers. Available information includes: bedrock geology, well and spring locations, dyetrace data, public land survey system information, geologic structures, sinkhole locations, alluvial floodplains, as well as public domain information such as streams, lakes, major roads, urban areas and county boundaries. MEGA will be of particular interest to landowners, developers, engineers, geologists, planners, researchers, teachers and students.MEGA allows users to apply earth science data to real world issues. This can be purchased through the Geological Survey and Resource Assessment Division's publications desk for $25.00 (Missouri residents, please include 7.6% sales tax which comes to $26.90) per copy or $45 with training (by appointment). An easy-to-follow manual will be included along with free software to enable viewing.

Geologic Map of Missouri (Sesquicentennial Edition), by Mark Middendorf, et al., 2003. Price $6.00-folded; $7.50-rolled. This Sesquicentennial Edition of the Geologic Map of Missouri was published in 2004 to recognize the agency's 150th anniversary. The map incorporates over 25 years of new geologic work. Various inset maps show earthquake epicenters in southeast Missouri, subdrift and modern drainage patterns in northwestern Missouri, principal tectonic features of Missouri and the location of unusual circular structures caused by meteorite or comet impact or explosive volcanism. It is a colorful, poster-sized, 1:500,000 scale map created with digital mapping technology. WALL MAPS

These maps are at a scale of 1:500,000 (1 inch = approximately 8 miles), suitable for framing, and are excellent tools for classroom use.

It measures 42 3/4 by 54 3/4 inches. Suitable for framing, it is printed on UV protected, heavy weight glossy paper.
