The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, approved the TMDL document for Elk River, WBID 3246, in McDonald, Barry and Newton counties. This document also includes these tributaries to the Elk River:

To address the listed pollutant, TMDLs were calculated for:

- Total phosphorus.
