Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources maintains a field office in Florissant near the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, or FUSRAP, site with a full time professional engineer, a part-time environmental engineer and an environmental specialist. In the central office in Jefferson City, another environmental engineer devotes about half of their time to reviewing plans and other documents generated by the project. This engineer also provides additional field oversight as needed. These personnel review remedial work plans, survey results and post remedial action reports generated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or USACE.
The department staff perform the following:
- Field investigations and inspections of USACE remediation activities in progress.
- Sample and analyze potentially radiologically contaminated soils.
- Sediments and water for verification of the USACE results.
- Coordinate actions with other state authorities and programs within the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
