The Missouri Hazardous Waste Management Commission was established by the Missouri Revised Statutes, Section 260.365, RSMo, in 1977. The commission promotes hazardous waste recycling, reuse and reduction; adopts, modifies and repeals rules and regulations to implement and enforce the Missouri Hazardous Waste Management Law; holds hearings on rules, complaints and permit appeals; and grant individual variances. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Hazardous Waste Program assists the commission in its duties.

Members

The commission is made up of seven members, appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate. No more than four members can belong to the same political party. Four of the members, one for each interest, must be knowledgeable about agriculture, the retail petroleum industry, the waste generating industry and the waste management industry. All members must represent the general interest of the public and have an interest in and knowledge of waste management and the effects of improper waste management on health and the environment. Each member serves a four-year term, and there is no limit on the number of terms any appointed member may serve.
