JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 16, 2025 – The Missouri State Historic Preservation Office is announcing a second call for applications for 2025 Historic Preservation Fund grants. The state office expects to pass on more than $200,000 from the federal Historic Preservation Fund to Missouri’s historic communities.

The Historic Preservation Fund grants support projects that relate directly to identifying, evaluating or protecting historic properties. The grants can be used to fund:

  • Training for members of Historic Preservation Commissions or city staff members.
  • Workshops, conferences and posters related to historic preservation.
  • Walking tours of National Register-listed sites.
  • Preservation plans.
  • Design guidelines.
  • Inventorying of archival files related to archaeology or historic architecture.
    Architectural and archeological surveys.
  • Nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Maintenance and construction documents for publicly-owned, National Register-listed buildings, including historic structure reports, maintenance plans, and planning for repair or rehabilitation work (designs, feasibility studies, etc.).
  • Internships for work on preservation projects.

The grants cannot fund physical construction or repair work, museum exhibits or archeological digs.

Eligible grant applicants include Certified Local Governments (a National Park Service designation), county government entities, municipalities and nonprofit organizations that have a historic preservation mission. Applications from Certified Local Governments will be considered first in accordance with federal regulations.
